Lake Ray Hubbard Residence

This residence was designed for our clients’ property near Rockwall, Texas, overlooking the shore of Lake Ray Hubbard. The heavily wooded site slopes down to the lake shore and Eckxstudio sited the structure spanning a bluff that runs across the property parallel to the shoreline. The two-story home is site-specific to a natural clearing on the wooded property and was sited to leave a cherished and mature pecan tree undisturbed. The slope of the natural bluff allowed the design to progress downward with the arrival point in the motorcourt on the home’s upper level. A grand stair, a secondary rear stair and an elevator provide vertical access to the main living areas and master suite on the lower level. The lower level opens outward toward the lake and features an expansive outdoor living room adjacent to the infinity edge pool.

Resilient and durable building materials – stone, metal panels and stucco – were chosen for aesthetics, low-maintenance qualities and high durability to withstand the often aggressive storms that blow in from the lake. The neutral palette blends the house into the woods and offers the family a serene space within which to live.
