Aspen House

Aspen House is a contemporary 3,300 square foot residence nestled in the mountain range above the town of Aspen, Colorado, with expansive views over the town to Aspen Mountain (Ajax) beyond. The existing terrain around the building site has a small natural clearing where three structural volumes are arrayed and partially dug-in to the mountain side. The main focus is the structure containing the living areas, master suite and an expansive deck overlooking Aspen and the surrounding forest. It connects to a 2nd structural volume which is a private bedroom wing accessed by a flight of stairs, adjoined on an angle to the main living area. The garage stands alone, focusing visitors’ views to the other two structures.

The minimalist interior material palette is tranquil like its environment and simple with white walls, blonde wood finishes and black metal and marble elements joined by a fireplace in the living room. Large triple-glazed windows frame views of Aspen and the mountainsides, linking outdoors and indoors for a dynamic feeling throughout the house.

The natural clearing for this site is optimal to minimize tree removal. This sustainable project is clad in extremely durable standing-seam metal panels and board-formed concrete, both of which are fire-resistant in case of wild fire.
