House on Bachman Creek

This expansive multi-level home is designed for a large, vacant creek lot with a heavily sloping topography running downhill to the creek at the rear of the property. The main entry accessing the upper level is made at grade in the front of the property, and portions of the lot has been excavated to nestle the lower level into the existing slope. Expansive walls of glass unite interior spaces with the natural surroundings. The design of the home is based upon a double-H shape with the two connecting crossbars being a glassed-in bridge and an art-filled double level gallery. Each of the second floor volumes heroically cantilever out from the lower level volumes, creating large shaded outdoor gathering spaces affronting the final slope down to the creek.
