Project:Barcode completed construction in 2018 and is one of the select few residences featured on the 2019 AIA Dallas Tour of Homes. The design for this 2-story modern home is a re-interpretation of a shotgun style home, essentially designed as two overlapped and offset rectangles forming the two floor levels. Circulation corridors run front-to-back relative to the lot and afford maximum views to outdoor spaces we designed in place of a traditional side yard. The Preston Hollow lot sits on the corner of two residential streets, so the garage and driveway could be tucked to the rear of the lot with access from the side street. The public spaces affront the main street and sit beside a covered outdoor living room and pool.
The facade design features a unique expression of randomly spaced vertical battens which mimic the barcode on product packaging, turning the ordinary and everyday idea of a barcode into a totally modern architectural expression.
