Check out this new doorbell (smartphone-inspired and connected) from German company DoorBird ( – I believe it just debuted at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.  While its looks are certainly inspired from a certain smartphone (I have one sitting on my desk right now, beeping at me as I have a webinar to log onto), it packs a lot of functionality I’d love to have on my front porch.

It’s a WI-FI connected doorbell and camera with HDTV-quality picture so you can see and talk to anyone who approaches your front door.  In some areas I know people are reporting packages stolen off their porches – this gadget also has a motion-sensor that might pair with your home alarm system, and the video image will link up with your iPad or smartphone so you can see (and presumably record) the activity out front of your home.

It definitely beats this rickety old thing!
