Dallas has a Holocaust Museum?

And maybe the Dallas Holocaust Museum Center for Education & Tolerance is planning a new home?

Dallas’ Holocaust Museum was founded in 1984….certainly a fact that has escaped me throughout my 35-plus-something years of living in the DFW metroplex.  Now recently spied by some of the architecture communications I receive, and reported recently by the Dallas Morning News, the museum is considering a new, larger space in Dallas’ West End.  It looks like they’ve tapped local firm Omniplan to design the new building – something that I feel is beneficial to the local design scene for a change.

Many recently expanded museums or new museum buildings in the area have been designed by out-of-town (even out-of-State) architects so I’m glad the museum board sought a Dallas-based firm for the designs.  Now I guess time will tell if and when design wraps up and construction can begin.  Stay tuned, Dallas.
